This exceptional example of early 20th-century Chinese Art Deco weaving captures the sophisticated aesthetic of the period. Its luxurious wool pile and masterful hand knotting ensure its status among the finest antique rugs available today.

The field is dominated by a rich, saturated hue best described as a vibrant coral rug, a shade highly prized during the Art Deco movement for its dramatic warmth. Against this vivid backdrop, a sprawling, naturalistic branch motif unfurls, rendered in delicate shades of pale blue, cream, and soft yellow, creating a striking contrast.

Adhering to the Chinese Art Deco preference for open space, the design employs a minimalist approach, allowing the central tree branch and scattered blossoms to float elegantly across the field. This emphasis on negative space highlights the bold, graphic quality characteristic of floral rugs from this era, moving away from the dense patterns of earlier traditional weaving.

A deep, contrasting navy blue border frames the composition, providing visual weight and stability. Within the border, subtle Chinoiserie elements, including bamboo shoots and butterflies, complete the design. Given its substantial dimensions, this piece is perfectly suited for defining large living areas or dining rooms as one of our premier room size rugs. See less
