A large central floral arrangement anchors this deep charger, depicting an ornate two-handled baluster vase filled with flowering stems, leafy sprays, and dense foliage. Hand-painted in tonal shades of cobalt blue against a pale tin-glazed ground, the composition reflects the Dutch tradition of interpreting Chinese export porcelain through local earthenware techniques. The brushwork varies from deep, saturated inky outlines to softer, diluted washes across the blossoms and scroll motifs. The wide, gently curved rim is divided into symmetrical panels of scrolling foliate baroque cartouches alternating with oval reserves. Each reserve depicts a perched bird set against stippled and hatched ground, interspersed with stylized floral sprays and diaper-pattern bands along the outer scalloped edge. The lively perimeter decoration provides a structured frame that mirrors the energetic arrangement of the central bouquet. Formed from buff-coloured earthenware with a pale, glossy tin glaze, the reverse is decorated with concentric blue painted concentric line borders encircling the rim. Centred within the shallow foot rim is a hand-painted blue six-pointed star or asterisk mark, a workshop device associated with Delft makers such as De Witte Ster (The White Star). The underside exhibits small pinholes, glaze irregularities, and faint suspension markings consistent with traditional kiln firing and hanging.
Produced in the Netherlands during the eighteenth century, the piece measures approximately 34 cm (13 3/8 inches) in diameter and stands 4.5 cm (2 1/4 inches) deep. Its generous depth and broad diameter make it suitable for display as a cabinet piece or wall-mounted charger.
