Modelled with an upright posture, attentive facial expression, and curled tail, the canine figure is detailed in soft cobalt washes that highlight its muzzle and paws. The lid slopes outwards with a scalloped edge, segmented by fine radial blue lines and miniature reserves depicting coastal windmills. The main baluster body stands on an octagonal faceted base, flaring gradually towards an undulating upper rim. Its central scenic panels feature finely rendered Dutch landscape vignettes complete with waterside windmills, thatched cottages, and distant sailing boats beneath lightly clouded skies. These narrative scenes are enclosed within lobed cartouche frames, bordered by geometric dot-and-dash banding. In contrast to the detailed landscape panoramas on the front, the opposing facets are adorned with restrained single sprigs of foliage, accentuating the glossy white porcelain ground between vertical pinstripes. Produced circa 1900 in the Delft tradition, this ornamental urn captures the historic European fascination with Dutch tin-glaze landscapes reimagined in hard-paste porcelain and novelty animalier modeling.

Measuring 29 cm in total height with the cover in place, the vase offers considerable presence on a mantelpiece or tabletop. Previous restoration has been carried out along the lower base rim, while the body and lid finial retain strong decorative definition and deep cobalt coloration. See less
