Supported … Read more Twin arched strap handles join the short, flared neck to the rounded shoulders of this flattened circular moon flask. Supported by an integral spreading oval foot, the earthenware vessel measures 24 cm in height and approximately 18 cm in width, displaying balanced proportions and crisp ceramic modelling throughout. The body is coated in a glossy faience glaze with a rich turquoise ground. This surface is worked with loose, horizontal brushwork in slate grey and deeper blue tones, creating an atmospheric, mottled texture that catches the light across the broad curved face and narrow profile. The principal face features a study of trailing morning glory flowers, with trumpet-shaped blooms opening in soft pink and cream. Each flower is delineated with fine crimson radial striping at the centre, complemented by detailed green foliage, trailing tendrils, and unopened buds executed in ceramic pigments. Towards the lower edge of the painted composition, the vase is inscribed 'A. REGNIER. 1879' in brown pigment, identifying the hand of decorator A. Regnier from Joseph-Théodore Deck's workshop. An impressed factory mark is stamped into the clay on the recessed underside of the base, beneath a translucent amber glaze. The vase has undergone professional restoration to the top rim and the foot rim to remedy previous small chips. Fine, uniform surface crazing is present across the glazed exterior, consistent with antique tin-glazed earthenware, and the piece remains stable and displayable. See less
