Around the outer rim, diamond-shaped piercings alternate with cobalt blue reserves overlaid with raised gilt foliate sprays, scrolls, and dotted tooling. The inner margin is framed by an undulating beaded and gilded moulding that steps down into the plain white well. The central circular medallion features a polychrome hand-painted wildlife study depicting a pair of horned gazelles among scrub and leafy foliage. One animal bounds forward with slender limbs extended, rendered in warm russet and white tones, while its companion rests quietly behind against soft green shrubbery, yellow flowering plants, and pale distant hills beneath a wash of tinted sky. Produced around 1870 by the Coalport porcelain manufactory in Shropshire, England, the plate exemplifies the elaborate decorative wares favoured for Victorian display cabinets. The underside of the white glazed bone china body is unmarked by a printed factory stamp but bears the painted gilt pattern number 7/969 alongside small blue painted tally marks near the foot rim. Measuring approximately 23.5 cm across, the plate retains crisp mouldings and bright enamel colours across both the central scene and the heavy gilding. It remains free from structural damage, presenting cleanly on its unglazed foot ring. See less
