The swelling, pod-like earthenware body is glazed in a smooth off-white ground, accented with small sprouting shoots. Rising from the front is an overlapping green leaf forming the spout with an ochre tip, while the fitted oval cover is surmounted by a sculpted mushroom finial displaying delicate gill detailing to its underside. Lead-based coloured glazes define the surfaces, producing the rich gloss, translucency, and contrast associated with classic Victorian majolica production. The dark brownish-madder tones of the knobbly bough structure balance the vibrant green botanical mouldings, complemented by fine overall glaze crazing typical of earthenware from this era. The teapot bears an impressed 'MINTON' factory mark to the underside alongside impressed date and batch cyphers, placing its manufacture in England in the 1870s. The inset oval cover features an integral steam release aperture to prevent spillage when pouring. Overall dimensions measure approximately 22 cm in length from spout tip to handle edge, by 15 cm in height and 15 cm in width. The piece retains strong display qualities with historical professional restoration to the cover rim. Factual details: impressed Minton mark to base; length 22 cm, height 15 cm, width 15 cm; manufactured in Staffordshire, England. See less
