Constructed from solid oak exhibiting prominent medullary ray figuring along the shaped side panels, the piece features an elegantly curved cresting rail at the top and flowing bracket sides that frame the tiered interior. The layout is organized into practical vertical sections. The upper gallery provides a raised shelf lip suitable for cotton reels or miniature curios, positioned above the first carved drawer fitted with a brass drop loop handle. Beneath this rests an open central storage compartment, supported over a second matching pull-out drawer designed to keep notions organized and out of sight. Along the lower frieze, below an additional strip of repeating carved trim, the bottom apron carries three cast brass hooks. Each hook is modelled with a classical maiden mask or female face surmounted by scrolls. A substantial brass hanging plate with a keyhole slot is secured firmly to the top crest, allowing easy and stable wall mounting. Probably dating from around 1900, the cabinet reflects the practical ingenuity of late Victorian and Edwardian domestic woodworking. Although originally tailored for sewing sundries, thread spools and haberdashery, its modest proportions—measuring 25 cm wide, 11 cm deep and 53.5 cm high—make it exceptionally versatile as a hall key rack, jewellery store or decorative spice shelf.
