Measuring 12 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter, this compact vessel possesses a reassuringly thick, heavy wall construction typical of free-blown studio glass produced in the United Kingdom during the late twentieth century. The glassmaker has employed a rich amethyst purple ground, layered with surface treatments to produce dramatic contrast and movement. Sweeping, ribbon-like bands of opaque black glass coil around the circumference, rendered with fine striated texture as if combed or dragged across the gathering while still molten. Complementing the dark trailed bands is an all-over golden iridescence that imparts a warm, metallic sheen over the purple ground. Irregular flecks and mottled speckles are scattered through the lustre, transitioning from smoky violet to shimmering copper tones depending on the angle of illumination. At the top, the everted lip is neatly finished with faint linear markings radiating outward from the circular aperture. The balanced proportions make it suitable either as a standalone cabinet ornament or as an eye-catching display piece in natural sunlight, which highlights the layered metallic lustre. The base has been ground and polished flat, revealing the dark core glass beneath. An incised cursive signature is hand-engraved across the underside, confirming individual studio craftsmanship, and three circular protective pads have been added to prevent surface wear. See less
