The head is held alert with pricked ears, sculpted facial contours, and a gentle turn towards the viewer, leading into a crested neck and pronounced withers. The powerful hindquarters, defined stifle, and broad chest reflect the working anatomy of a stock horse, cleanly rendered in slip-cast earthenware. The model is finished in a high-gloss glaze over hand-applied ceramic colours. A warm bay coat dominates the body, smoothly shaded across the flanks, barrel, and shoulders to give depth to the underlying musculature. Dark brown and black pigment details highlight the cropped mane, flowing tail, and lower points of the hind legs. A broad white blaze extends down the bridge of the muzzle, while the two front lower legs are painted in contrasting off-white stockings ending in neatly defined hooves. Constructed without a base or plinth, the figure balances independently on its four hoof pads, which remain unglazed from kiln firing. Underneath the belly, a circular firing vent hole prevents pressure build-up during manufacture. Beside this vent, the underside bears the stamped factory mark reading 'quarter horse' alongside the circular beswick england pottery backstamp. The figurine was produced in staffordshire and dates from the second half of the twentieth century. In terms of proportions, the piece measures approximately 20 cm in overall height, 26 cm from the tip of the nose to the edge of the tail, and 8 cm across the widest point of the flank. The glossy earthenware surface remains clean and reflective, demonstrating the ceramic control and specialist animal modelling that characterised beswick production throughout this period. See less
