The open-rimmed form is traditional for Japanese incense burners or small accent pots, designed to sit neatly on a table or scholar's shelf. The exterior is decorated in a characteristic Kutani palette dominated by rich iron-red enamel and gold illumination. Fine polychrome brushwork across the white ground depicts songbirds in flight and perched among blooming peonies and leafy prunus boughs. Above and below, deep vermilion borders frame the main field, filled with gilded scrolling foliage and stylised flower heads. Each tripod leg is covered in matching red enamel and painted with trailing gilt spirals. The recessed underside bears a hand-painted two-character maker's mark in red for Kutani (九谷). The style, materials, and decorative treatment indicate Japanese manufacture from the late Meiji or early Taisho period. The vessel measures approximately 10 cm in height by 9.5 cm across. It retains bright enamels and clean internal glazing, functioning well as a decorative miniature or display piece. See less
