Hand blown in translucent smoke green metal with scattered fine seed bubbles, the piece takes clear inspiration from Roman and early European forest glass traditions. The flared cup features an undulated, gently ruffled rim that widens above a rounded lower bowl. Beneath the cup, a raised collar transitions into a hollow cylindrical column wrapped with an applied spiral trail terminating near the spreading circular base. This ribbed conical foot is built from tightly coiled glass threads, producing a concentric stepped pattern that lends physical stability and visual weight to the upright profile. The underside reveals an authentic pontil scar where the vessel was detached from the pontil rod during hand finishing. The bowl is encircled by applied disc-like bosses, each stamped with an open beaded rosette motif reminiscent of ancient unguentaria and Roman drinking vessels. Made in the twentieth century, probably in an Italian art glass workshop specialising in historical reproductions, the piece works equally well as a decorative chalice, goblet, or small flower vase. Standing approximately 16.5 cm tall, the glass maintains a balanced, tactile feel with clear clarity through the body. It remains well preserved, showing neither chips nor cracks, and displays crisply in natural light where the varying glass thickness shifts from light moss tones to deeper forest greens. See less
