The top consists of three walnut planks, whose stunning woodgrain combines with a rich patina to create a nicely varied surface. Visible in the top’s framing pieces are the wooden dowels carefully fitted into the joinery, which not only inform us of this piece’s construction but also serve as a testament to the skills of the craftsmen who created it. This chest has 3 wide, deep drawers whose fronts are made from single thick cuts of walnut and shaped to mirror the curves of the top’s carved edge. Part of the wood above the top drawer has endured heavy wear over the years as the commode has been used and loved. Each drawer has 2 ornate brass pulls and brass escutcheons, which are merely decorative today as their keys have been lost to time. The drawers are clean and easy to use. Carved panels appear on the rounded front corners and the sides of the chest, where we find a scalloped apron. With its fine craftsmanship and quality material, this commode would make an excellent addition to any space. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for use in your interiors. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering the age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
