Its top is covered in … Read more This French 19th-century Louis XVI-style desk is made from mahogany and has recently been refinished. Its top is covered in dark green leather with a stamped border. Although it is likely not original to the piece, its wear tells us that it has been a part of this desk for quite some time; it has softened over the years, and most of the gold embossing on its border has rubbed off, creating a charming aged look. The left and right drawers in the apron open smoothly with rectangular brass bail pulls while the wide center drawer functions with its original lock and key, surrounded by a brass escutcheon with ribbon detailing. The ribbed brass inserts on the corners of the desks are intact, save for the front right corner, which has been lost to time. The desk is supported by 4 round legs carved with fluted channels, recalling classical columns which are topped with brass capitals. In typical Louis XVI fashion, the legs taper to the floor before culminating in brass feet. With its timeless design, this desk is the perfect piece to anchor any office or workspace. Gently cleaned and polished with a French paste wax, ready for use in your interiors.
