This one-of-a-kind rug is hand knotted from hand-spun wool colored with natural vegetable dyes extracted from local plants. The wool is a blend of merino, New Zealand and Ghazni wool, which gives the pile a high lanolin content and a long staple, so it feels soft and wears well. You may notice an abrash in the red field, a gentle shift in shade within a single color that comes from hand-spun wool taking the natural dye a little differently from batch to batch. It shows most against the red border. The trees and branches are knotted by hand, row by row, from a drawn pattern. The rug is tied with a double knot. Once the knotting is done, the pile is trimmed to a moderate thickness, then stone-washed and sun-dried, which brings out a natural sheen and softens the colors. The pile is soft and dense underfoot, and it stands up well to daily use.
